DISTRICT CONVOCATION.

, A YEAR'S GOOD WORK,

The district convocation of the .Women's Christian Temperance Union opened in the Methodist Hall, Onehunga, on Monday with a public reception to the delegates. The Rev. F. E. Leadley presided. Addresses were delivered by Miss McLay, district organiser, and Mrs. Lee-Cowie. The first session opened this morning when about 100 delegates were in attendance.

The annual report, read by Mr. G. W. A. Clark, corresponding secretary, said temperance work was viewed with a good degree of satisfaction as steady progress had been maintained in mostly all the branches. There are 33 adult unions in the Auckland district, with a membership of 1101, an increase of 48. With regard to the work among the young, fifteen unions work cradle rolls, five report L.T.L. work, and four unions are responsible for bands of hope, while union members assist in band of hope work carried on from various other sources. Scientific temperance charts have been secured by nine unions. The million shilling fund is being taken up by.a number of unions. The financial statement, showing a credit balance of £16, was read by Mrs. S. Taylor. The report and balance-sheet were adopted.

At the afternoon session the president gave an address on "Problems and Difficulties of Local Leagues." Reports were then presented as follow:—Maori work, Mrs. Fulljames; cradle roll, Mrs. Raws peace and arbitration, Mrs. Carr; plans of work, Mrs. Williams; Birthday League, Mrs. Bruce; immigration, Mrs. Neal; Bible in schools, Mrs. Cook; notable days, Miss Read; L.T.L. work Mrs. Harper.
