WINGATUI TRACKWORK.
GALLOPS FOR D.J.C. MEETING. HIGH GEAR AND NARRATIVE GO WELL. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") DUNEDIN, this day. The Dunedin Jockey Club's spring meeting will be held on October 10 and ' 12. At Winga'tui, where the course was in fine order this morning, Gold Tinge and Academy were worked, the former being sprinted* a furlong and a-half, and . Academy restricted to steady work on 'the tan'. Both arc looking in the best of health and carrying a lot of condition. The Rosenor—Monoxide colt was too crood for the Tractor—Obsono mare filly in a sprint over three furlongs in 38 1-os on the course proper. The former was going very comfortably throughout, and when kicked up to it easily headed his companion. Waving Corn, who- looks very bright, was given a round at half pace, then sprinted home well. Narrative just headed High Gear with Wingatui several lengths away, at the end of a mile in 1.46, the laet seven fnr- • longs taking 1.32 3-5. It was an attraci tive gallop on the part of the first two, 1 and easily the best showing that High ! Gear has given during the past fortnight. ' Antrim' Boy easily beat Tormentor at the end of five furlongs in 1.11. , Solmar and Thurnham sprinted home well over the last three furlongs of a good working gallop. Wig Wag and Top Speed were sent j over five furlongs, and were doing well ■ at the end in 1.12. ! Royal Saxon —with about lOst up —and , Blue' Metal were companions over five furlongs, which took 1.7 4-5. The former appeared to be going very comfortably at the finish.' Assembly was just headed on the post at the end of half a? mile by : Battle Screen, the last three furlongs of which took 47 l-ss; but Assembly appeared to be going better. Toa Taua'gave'an excellent exhibition of goood fencing over a round of steeplephase schooling fences, and is a muchimproved horse compared to when he raced at the Otago Hunt meeting. Crossbow and Martis finished on even terms at the end of five furlongs in I.C 2-5. ' Al Jolson,, Auster and Compensation were sprinted over three furlongs on the course proper, and the former—who was conceding each of the others a good deal of weight—beat Compensation easily by three lengths, ir, 38s. Auster was several lengths further back. . , Mota Piper and the two-year-old full sister to Full Fling ran half a mile in 50 i-ss, and the latter—a nice galloperhad the better of it. Heather Lad is gradually coming to hand again. El Boa appeared to move a little cramped when jroins slowly. C.
