OFFENCE BY CHEMIST.
DISPENSING OF PRESCRIPTION BREACH OF THE LAW. SECURITY FOR APPEAL. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. "It seems to be in conflict with the spirit of the Act that a drug store where medical prescriptions are received and are later distributed to patients should he under control of unskilled men," said Mr. Page, S.M., in the course of judgment delivered to-day. "In many cases advice or instructions have to be obtained from a chemist as to the method of applying or taking medicine or mixture. This cannot be safely given except by qualified men."' The. case was one in which W. S. Wallace-was charged, under section 40 of the Pharmacy Act. 1908, that, being a registered chemist, he kept under h:s name an o;:en shop for the compounding or dispensing of prescriptions, the said shop not being under his immediate supervision and control or that of his duly enrolled manager. When the case was heard it was stated that prescriptions were received at a Lambton Quayshop, but were made up at a Willis Street shop. Defendant was fined £i 1/. security 'or appeal being fixed at £10 10/.
