GAS TURNED ON.
MAN IN COMATOSE, STATE.
FOUND BY LADY TEACHERS.
INCIDENT IN CITY SCHOOL.
An overpowering smell of gas attracted the attention of two lady teachers at the Curran Street school this morning. They found a man sitting near a gas ring in the teachers-' room with a rug over his head. One of the teachers promptly turned off the gas. The rug was torn off the man's head, and first aid was given. The headmaster was sent for.
The man gradually began to revive, and he was induced* to lie down while the police were sent for. Two constables went to the school and took the man away. They found that his name was L. Dannefard, aged about 40. The man had been working at the school while the janitor was away ill. At 8.10 this morning he was seen near the gas ring, and one of the teachers then noticed a slight smell of gas. As it was thought by the teacher that the man was a plumber, no particular notice was then taken.
