AUTHOR OF HYMN OF HATE
BERLIN, September 16,
Ernst Lissauer, the author of the famous war-time Hymn of Hate, explains that he wrote the poem in good faith, believing that England desired to strangle Germany. Since then he has learned better, and now realises that he should have expressed his anxiety in a song of love for Germany rather than in a song of hate against England.
It is painful, he says, to have his name allied with ideas of death and destruction, for he believes that a new war would mean the annihilation of Western culture.
