OWNERS WILLING.
BUT MINERS REFUSE.
Little Chance Of Resumption In
N.S.W. Coal Dispute.
QUESTION OF PROFITS
(Australian and N.Z. Press Association.)
(Received 11 a.m.)
SYDNEY, this day,
Although the Premier, Mr. T. R. Bavin, has conferred Avith both sides, there is considered to be small chance of an early resumption in the coal dispute following the commission's findings, the miners having previously refused to be bound by the commission's decision. Union officials have challenged the accuracy of its computation. They state that an improper allowance was made by the commission for the endowment of compensation and the income tax, and the finding therefore was equivalent to a profit of 3/5 A per ton.
Mr. Bavin subsequently stated that the owners were prepared to reopen the mines on the basis of the Government's proposals.
