March 5, 6.—lnvercargill T.C. j Jewel Pointer has been having a very j easy time during the past fortnight, 1 and nothing beyond walking exercise has • been required of him. Great Change has again joined J. ' Shaw's team, and the horses now receiving attention from ,thc Epsom trainer I number .ten. It is some time since Great | Change had a race, and though he looks j well .after his spell, it will be Christmas before he is at the top of his form. | _ . Of the horses trained at Epsom none appears to have made greater improvement during the past few weeks than Etta Cole. F. Gilchrist now has the daughter of Peterwah putting more dash into the early part of her tasks. Her owner, Mr. F. J. Docherty, will have to be unlucky not to get good money with her this season. J. Gee has added another to his team. This is the pacer Childe Audubon, who has hitherto been trained at Tamahcre by R. A. McMillan. The bay gelding, who raced witli and without the hopples a couple of seasons ago, gave promise of being a good horse, but he never reached good company, and his new owner has no easy task to win races with him. It is stated that the Yaldhurst trainer. L. O. Thomas has leased a property and stables at Lower Hutt, Wellington, and will set up as a public trainer there in a couple of months' time. He will train horses for Messrs. Kelly and Pirie, besides which he will have under his care Lady Fan and Purser. The maiden pacer Gold Seam, in L. McMahon's team, is hitting out in improved style, and he has been pacing with a good deal of dash in his work. If he continues to progress as he has done during the past month he should be a useful horse to have in the slow class pacers' races on the country circuit. •Nominations for all events at the Wellington Club's meeting, which is to b' held on Saturday, November 2, close with the secretary of the club, Petone at S ; p.m. on Friday, October 11. The pro- ; gramme consists of throe races of a mile and five furlongs, two at two miles, and three at a mde and a quarter, one of these being the Xew Zealand Cup Trial Handicap, in which the horses will be , handicapped to do 2.44 or better.
