UNBEATEN THREE-YEAR-OLD
FOUR SUCCESSIVE VICTORIES
Eaglet is the best three-year-old so far this season, for she has started on four occasions for four wins. She scored at Marton and won the Wanganui Guineas about a week later. Her next start was in the Flying Stakes at Avondale on Saturday, and after being handy all the way she scored nicely at the finish. She was made a warm favourite for the Avondalc Guineas yesterday, and being patiently ridden in behind the leaders till the straight, took charge in the last furlong to score by threequarters of a length from False Scent. Eaglet was bred by her owner, Mr. F. Earl, K.C., who, through indisposition, was unable to attend the meeting, and have the pleasure of seeing his filly scoring a dual win. He has been trying for a long -while to get a classic winner, and now has one who is sure to do him further good service. The successes of Eaglet were very popular, for Mr. Earl takes a keen interest in racing and racehorses for the love of the sport.
ZIRCON FOR SYDNEY. Zircon is to be taken to Sydney by his owner-trainer, W. Garrett, on Friday, and E. Garrett will go across to do the riding. Zircon was raced in Adelaide last autumn and fell when looking all over a winner of the Great Eastern Steeplechase at Onkaparinga on Easter Monday. Zircon scored very comfortably in the Grey Lynn Hurdle race at Avondale yesterday, and only has to keep sound to pay his way on the other side. He is engaged in hurdle and steeplechase events at the A.J.C. meeting.
