PIUTHAIR'S PLUMPTON.

EAGLET TAKES THE GUINEAS. PRINCE VAL ALSO SCORES A DOUBLE. WHITE FANG BEATS AWARERE. LADY'S BOY GOES UNDER TO VALUE Almost perfect conditions favoured the Avondalc Jockey Club for the termination of its spring meeting, and all true lovers of the turf will hope that the term "Avonilale luck" will henceforward be synonymous with the better fortune that usually attends racing carnivals at Ellerslie. The oustanding features of yesterday's sport were the doubles scored for the meeting by* Eaglet (Guineas winner) and Prince Val (who beat a field of twenty-eight in the Mount Albert Handicap), this success of Piuthair in the Plumpton Handicap, and the defeats of Awarere and Lady's Boy by White Fang and Value respectively. The totalisator turnover during the day was £39,80(5, compared with £28,472 for the corresponding day last year. The total amount put through the machine during the two days was £811.003, an increase of £31,212 on the 1928 figures of £55,391. Principal Handicap.True Blood was the only withdrawal from the Plumpton Handicap, in which the betting was fairly brisk, most support being accorded Hyde Park, who carried (£1610), Piuthair (£773) and Desert Glow ( £761) .also got a fanmeasure of support. When the field had settled down Piuthair had charge, attended by Star Stranger, Hyde Park, The Lover. Standfast and Glenstar, and racing along the back the order was Glenstar, Piuthair, Transformer, Hyd.3 Park, The Lover, Star Stranger, Standfast, High Pitch, Desert Glow and Singleton. Crossing the top Glenstar was showing the way to Transformer, Standfast and Piuthair, with The Lover, Hyde Park and Star Stranger next. Glenstar turned for home first from Transformer, High Pitch, and Standfast, but he tired over the final stages and Piuthair and Star Stranger then came on the scene, and in a good finish Piuthair defeated Star Stranger by half a length, with Transformer a similar distance away in third place. High Pitch was next, then came The Lover, Desert Glow, Singleton, Hyde Park, Standfast and Glenstar. ~_. ,'- The Guineas. ~ - With Crimestor, Currajong, Motere and Refresher declining their engagements in the Avondalc Guineas, the field in the mile "classic" was reduced to seven. Eaglet Was installed a warm favourite, carrying £2208, with Flying Prince ( £799) and Imperial Prince ( £664) next in request. Eaglet, who drew the rails, was first out from False Scent and Imperial Prince, and running along the back Imperial Prince and Flying Prince were racing on terms, with Eaglet and False Scent together, just behind them, followed by Gay Duke, Tahoma and Bennie, who were also bunched. There was no alteration as they ran across the top, and the order into the straight was Flying Prince, Imperial Prince, Eaglet, False Scent, Bennie, Gay Duke and Tahoma. Eaglet took charge over the last furlong and, stalling off a strong challenge from False Scent, the Chief Ruler filly scored by three-quarters of a length, False Scent being two and a-half lengths in front of Imperial Prince. Tahoma was fourth, then followed Bennie, Flying Prince and Gay Duke. Surprise in Open Sprint. Cymon declined his engagement in the President's Handicap, the chief sprint event of the day, in which the betting was very solid. The actual ■ favourite when the machine closed was Gold Monev, who carried £1334, while Leader (£1272) and Awarere (£079) also had good support. Lucy Rose was first to move, but crossing the top High Finance had charge from Awarere, Lender, Lucy Rose, Te Atiawa, Kingfield am. Bilhkins The last-named ran up second to High Finance entering the straight with Awarere, Kingfield and Leader close up. A furlong from home Awarere took charge, and looked the winner when White Fang came with a late run from the back, and got up in time to win by three-quarters of a length, with Leader third, a similar distance away. Flying Juliet was fourth, then came Archeen, Te Atiawa, Gold Money, Lucy Rose, Kingfield, and High Finance. A Favourite Scores. Some Lady and Takarunga were the onlv withdrawals from the New Lynn Handicap, for which Sea Cob (£1606) was first fancy, with Arikitoa (£1222) and Indolent '(£1048) next in request. When thev settled down Sea Cob had charge from Te Kawana, Good Boy, Crown Arch and William of Orange. Crossing the top Crown Arch was m front followed bv William of Orange, Sea Cob, Good Boy, Lucky Alice and Arikitoa. Lucky Alice led into the straight from Crown Arch, William of Orange, Good Boy, Sea Cob and Arikitoa. The last two then drew out, and in a good finish Sea Cob beat Arikitoa by a neck, with Brampton, who came fast over the last bit, a head away third. Lucky Alice was fourth, and then came Good Boy, Mountain Guide, Indolent, Crown Arch, Bob Amans and William of Orange. One for Te Awamutu. The meeting concluded with the Nihotapu Handicap, for which all went to the post. Ohinemuri (£1293) was favourite, while Lady's Boy (£772) and Palmares (£694) were most sought after of the others. Value had £451 invested on her chance. Value shot to the 'front as soon as the tapes were released, and along the back was attended by Lady's Boy, Ohinemuri, Ruffles, Owairaka and Palmares. Crossing the top the order was Value. Ohinemuri, Mithra, Ladys Boy. Owairaka, Palmares, Cynthia N. and' Amor. Value was still in charge at the entrance to the straight, followed by Mithra, Owairaka, Ohinemuri, Ladys Boy and Cynthia N. Value went on to win by a length and a-half from Ladv's Bov, who was a neck in front of Mithra." Palmares was fourth, with Owairaka, Ohinemuri, Cynthia N., In the Shade and Marble King next.

A Favourite Scores,
