UNWISE MOVE.

Shipbuilders' Employment Of Shearer. "BIG NAVY" SCANDAL. (Australian Tress Assn.—United Service.) WASHINGTON, September 22. The employment of William B. Shearer, the "big navy" propagandist, by American shipbuilders as an-observer at the Geneva naval conference of 1927, was described as most unwise yesterday to the committee of the Senate which is investigating the affair. The description was that of Mr. Charles M. Schwab, chairman of directors of the Bethlehem Steel Corporation. Witness said he knew nothing about the Shearer deal until many months later. Asked who was responsible for the employment of Shearer by his company, Mr. Schwab hesitatingly named Mr. S. W. Wakeman, the vice-president.
