HOBART OMITTED.
Port-of-Call For New Steamship Service. AUSTRALIA TO NEW ZEALAND. (Received 10.30 a.m.) MELBOURNE, this day.The Minister of Customs, Mr. H. S. Gullett, denied that the omission of Hobart as a port-of-call for the new steamship service being established between New Zealand and Melbourne was due to the operation of the Commonwealth Navigation Act.
Mr. Gullett added that there was no truth in the report that the omission was due to the provisions of the coastal clauses of the Navigation Act. It wa3 greatly to be hoped that Hobart would be included in the itinerary for the new service. It would be of great advantage to Tasmanian trade.
