PORT OF AUCKLAND.
IMPORTS FOR AUGUST
FURTHER INCREASE SHOWN
In August last a greater volume of importation was handled at the Auckland wharves than in the corresponding month of last year. Vessels arrived at the port carrying 115.597 tons of cargo, as compared with 109,172 tons in August, 1923. In the month just passed, 21..999 tons more cargo was handled than during the preceding month.
The total imports for August were as follow:—Coastal (beyond the province), 30,720 tons; Pacific Islands (fruit 1130 tons, raw sugar 3230 tons, and manures 13,60 l '■ons), 19,339 tons; Australia (coal and coke 4327 tons), 6676 tons; Java (raw sugar), 7449 tons; United Kingdom (manures 78S8 tons, general 17,589 tons), °G 171 tons; Canada (general 5679 tons), 6953 tons; United States of America (manures 1200 tons, general 4200 tons), 13.234 tons; total for month, 115.597 tons.
During the month 1003 passengers arrived from overseas, and 768 left the Dominion.
