BIRKDALE MASQUERADE BALL.
A crowd of over 1.10 thronged the Beach Haven cabaret on Saturday night when a masquerade plain and fancy dress ball was given in honour of Miss Dot Casey, the Birkdale queen in the Birkenhead Fire Brigade queen carnival. One of the features of the evening was the presentation of the various queens. These were introduced by the organiser, Mr. Bert McPhail, and were each given a hearty round of applause. Miss D. Casey (Birkdale queen) was in chemeuse red crepe de chine with silver lace, uneven hem and posie to match. Miss L. McPhail (friendly societies' queen) was in blue mist crepe de chine with uneven hem. Miss G. Utting (business queen) was frocked in apple green crepe de chine with panelled skirt edged with lace. The judges for the fancy dresses were Mesdames J. P. McPhail, Boatwood, Kay, and Miss D. Mills. The prize winners were: Best costume, Miss I). Casey, Buddha queen; Mr. C. Schorman, tennis. Most original costume, Mrs. C. Schorman, as a supporter of the Birkdale queen; Mr. Pat McGovern, tyres.
