PAPAROA NEWS.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) PAPAROA, this day. The Anglicans of Matakohe, led by Miss Coates, held a successful concert and dance in the Matakohe Hall in aid of the church funds. The hall was beautifully decorated and an interesting programme was given by artists from Matakohe, Ruawai, Hukatere and Paparoa. The Rev. S. M. I. Salt presided. Lieut.-Colonel Barton, organiser for the central fund, gave a short address. The dance music was played by the Matakohe Orchestra. • A gathering was held at the Paparoa railway goods shed to farewell Mr. Carlton, the stationmaster, who is leaving to take a position at the Wellington station. Mr. R. Smith, on behalf of the residents of Paparoa railway and other neighbouring districts, presented Mr. Carlton with a chiming clock and a wallet. A dance was held afterwards, Mr. F. Massey acting as M.C., and music being played by the Paparoa Orchestra. Mr. Carlton, during his term of office, has proved an able and obliging officer and his departure is regretted.
