DAIRY WORKERS.
SIX-DAY WEEK SOUGHT. OVERTIME FOR CLERKS. Evidence has been given before tho Labour Bills Committee by the president and secretary of the Auckland Dairy Union, Messrs. A. McGarry and J. Purteil respectively, with a view to securing an amendment to the Shops and Offices Act to provide for a six-day week for all workers. Milk roundsmen are now subject to a seven-day week, and they also come under the provision that ono hour each day must be given in free stable attendance in addition to the regular 48 hours. Evidence was also given by Mr. Puriell on behalf of clerical workers asking for the removal of the provision in the Act disallowing overtime to clerical workers in receipt of £200 and over.
It is understood that the Labour Bill* Committee was surprised at the existence of this provision.
