Californian Fires Overcome By Heavy Downpour. SAN DIEGO'S PLIGHT. (Australian and N. 55. Press Association.) LOS ANGELES, September 10. The latest reports to hand from Ventura and Ha 11 Diego state that the oil and forest areas which were on lire on Tuesday became stretches of steam last night after heavy rains had quenched the flames. Enormous damage was done by the fires. San Diego especially will suffer because of her devastated watershed. Probably the city will remain without a proper supply of water until the trees grow again. Forest fires in the States of Oregon ancl Washington are spreading bcfoiv, hot, driving winds. Several large areas are now burning.
