KAOLIN CLAY.
WHANGAREI DEPOSITS. USED FOR INSULATORS. (By Tclegrapli.—Own Correspondent) WHANGAREI, this day. A deposit of kaolin clay, which is said to be superior to any other known clay for the manufacture of insulators, is being worked by Messrs. J. J. Craig, Ltd., at Wliangarei Heads. The output is 50 tons a month, and most of it is sent to Insulators, Ltd., of Wellington, the contractors to the Government for the making and supply of hydro-electric insulators. As unlimited supplies of the clay exist at the Heads, the development of the industry is probable. The owners advised the Harbour Board yesterday that they had decided to build a small wharf at the kaolin quarry for loading purposes. Mr. Gardner asked whether picnic parties would be allowed to land on the wharf, which would be situated, in a pretty bay. The chairman considered this would be a matter of arrangement. It was decided to forward the plans to the Marine Department and to sanction the construction of a private wharf, provided that the board has the right to resume it any time within 25 years.
