ONE TREE HILL

THE BOROTJGH SCHEME. ANOTHER COMMISSION NECESSARY The One Tree Hill Road Board met last night, the chairman, Mr. J. Hardwicke, presiding. A letter was received from Mr. W. J. Jordan, M.P., in which he said ho had recommended that the usual commission in connection with the formation of a . borough should bo dispensed with in view of the favourable finding of a previous commission. Mr. Jordan askfd that the matter be dealt with as expeditiously as possible. In connection with the same matter the Under-Secretary of Internal Affairs advised that the borough petition would m receive careful attention. He added that there was no legal authority whereby the setting up of a commission might if be dispensed with. . j In another letter Mr. Jordan said that the correct procedure should be followed. If the question had not already been investigated and the borough was formed,'it .might be open to protest by any ratepayer; .Mr. R. C. Clark: It is a ■ shame that | ratepayers : should bo put to the ex- 1 pense of a second commission. The only I alteration in the district since the com- 1 mission .was air increase in population I of 1500, so.there can surely be no altera- 8 tion in the finding. It might be legal, | but-it -does not--seem fair to hold § another commission. | . - On.-the -.motion- of Mr. C. L. Slyfield, g it was decided that the correct procedure | should be carried out. j
