MOTOR CYCLE NOTES.
The first motor cyclist actually to attain 100 m.p.h. in Great Britain was u. id. Davidson (Marley-Davidson). Captain Malcolm Campbell was a pioneer motor cyclist and lounder of the uromley M.C.C. llis first machine was a 2 h.p. Jctex. At a recent wedding in France all the participants, including the bride and bridegroom, arrived at the church on motor cycles. Seating acommodation for 2000 people will be provided at a dirt track which is to be constructed in the Marine Gardens, Edinburgh. Since 1924 the number of motor cycles in use in Poland has increased from about 1000 to 3734. There is a growing enthusiasm for the movement. Motor cycling is steadily increasing in popularity in Sweden. Last year 6234 machines were imported into the country, compared with 3843 in 1926. A really good steering damper will make for general comfort and stability. Large tyres, good forks, and spring-top saddles are all desirable for long-dis-tance work. Until stopped by the police, it was the practice of a German motor cyclist to take his wife and two children for long runs on a 1924 147 c.c. solo FrancisBarnett. Of 93 moto'r cycles in Barbadoes, British West Indies, last October, 73 were of British manufacture. The motor cycle trade in Jamaica is now said to be exclusively British. In Australia it is believed that a number of English riders will develop into first-class dirt track exponents during the English season, and will visit the Commonwealth next summer to ride on the speedways there. At a meeting of the Competition Committee of the American Motor Cycle Association a motion to reintroduce j 1000 c.c. twins into dirt track racing in sidecar events, was defeated. It was stated that even 750 c.c. machines were really too fast, and that there might come a day when 250 ex. models would be used exclusively for dirt track racing in the States.
