AUCKLAND R.C.

SPRING MEETING CONCLUDES.

GOSHAWK'S MEMORIAL

KAWINI HOME IN HURDLES.

PAGANELLI TAKES THE SPRINT.

The Auckland Racing Club's Spring Meeting is concluding to-day in beautiful weather, before a fairly good attendance. The track is in excellent condition. The principal events carded are the Musket Stakes for two-year-olds, the King Edward Memorial (ten furlongs), Epsom Handicap (sprint), and Liverpool Handicap (mile).

INTERESTING OPENING.

FAVOURITE BEATEN AND AN INQUIRY.

All the acceptors started in the Nomanby Handicap, for which Royal Lineage £813, Modest Boy £775 and Arikitoa £760 found most support. Master Clements, Catapult, Winsome Boy and Sir Russell were the first to show up, and along the back Master Clements and Sir Russell were together, followed by Royal Lineage, Winsome Boy, Modest Boy and War Officer. Sir Russell led across the top from Catapult, Royal Lineage and Master Clements, and as they turned for home the order was Sir Russell, Royal Lineage, Modest Boy, Winsome Boy and Arikitoa. Fifty yards from the post Sir Russell came out from the fence and appeared to interfere with Modest Boy, whom he beat by a length, with Royal Lineage three-quarters of a length away in third place. Winsome Boy was fourth, and then came Arikitoa, Bert Hinkler, Winnington, Eager Rose and Kerry Dance. After the race an inquiry was held into alleged interference by Sir Russell, but no action was taken. Another Favourite Goes Under. The eight horses carded all went to the post for the Manukau Hurdles, and when betting ceased Siaosi, £872, Nucleus, £627, and Royalform, £482, were backed in that roder. Lady Cintra led Tinopono, Siaosi, Karamu, Royalform, Glenotus, Nucleus and Kawini when the field had settled down, but Siaosi made a bad jump at the fence by the three-furlong post and lost ground. Passing the stand Tinopono, Lady Cintra and Siaosi were together in front of Karamu and Nucleus, with Kawini last. Along the back the order was much the same, although Kawini was moving up fast, and Siaosi made another faulty jump over the hurdle by the six-furlong post, where Tinopono fell, and Nucleus did likewise at the next obstacle. Lady Cintra led across the top, and showed the way into the straight from Kawini, Royalform, Siaosi and Karamu. In a good finish Kawini got the verdict by a short head %-om Siaosi, with Lady Cintra a neck away, Karamu was fourth, followed by Royalform and Glenotus.

Paganelli Captures Epsom. Hoariri and Macroom were withdrawn from the Epsom Handicap, for which the public accorded Paganelli £883 most supsupport, Benzora £762, and Nancy Lee £586 being next in demand. Lady's Boy, Billikins and Paganelli were first out, and crossing the top tlie order was Paganelli, Awarere, Lady's Boy, Nancy Lee, Billikins, Ballymoy 11., Lysander and Benzora. Paganelli turned for home first from Awarere, Billikins, Lady's Boy, Nancy Lee and Benzora. The last named challenged Paganelli in the run to the post, but the favourite hung on and got the decision by a long head, with Nancy Lee one length ancf a-quar-ter away third. Lysander was fourth, and then came Prince Otto, Gold Money, Kaiti, Lady's Boy, Oration, Awarere and Billikins. The King Edward. White Fang failed to parade for the King Edward Memorial, leaving eighteen runners to go to the post. It was a good betting race, with Mask £1095, Valkon £875, and Star Stranger £S6O best supported. At the start King Emerald was the first to show up from Catkin, Valkon, Papatu, Royal Mint, Goshawk, Tidal and Mask. Along the back Catkin was in charge, with King Emerald, Valkon, Mask, Mint Leaf, Goshawk, Vivo, Papatu, Miss New Zealand and Star Stranger following. Crossing the top Valkon had Mask as his near attendant, with Goshawk, Vivo, Catkin, and King Emerald handy. Valkon, Mask, Papatu, Star Stranger, Goshawk and Catkin were first into the straight, and in a great finish Goshawk defeated Star Stranger and Catkin, who dead-heated, by a head. Valkon was fourth, and then followed Mint Leaf, Tidal, Te Kara, Transformer, Royal Mint, Miss New Zealand, Royal Dc-ulton ; and Mask.
