WAR MEMORIAL MUSEUM.
LOCAL BODY CONTRIBUTIONS. FINANCIAL DIFFICULTY ARISES. Although the Auckland War Memorial Museum Bill, as amended by the Local : Bills Committee, has been passed .by Parliament, there is still a difficulty with regard to finance. The bill provides for contributions totalling £5700 annually from, the Auckland metropolitan district, but there will be no return until the end of next June at the earliest. The president of the Auckland Museum and Institute (Mr. H. E. Jaile) said the object -of the legislation was to define an equitable basis of contribution. It was considered that the museum should be maintained by Auckland people in memory of Auckland soldiers. Private citizens were taking a keen interest in the institution, and were assisting the fun<v .Under the new legislation the contributions from the local bodies would be £300 less per annum than the originally sought, " this being caused by a decision to omit Franklin County and Pukekolis Borough, which both opposed the bill.
