MORE POLICE CHANGES.
CJ.D. CHIEF RETIRING. (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) LONDON, October 7. It is reported that Sir Wyndhairi Childs, Assistant Commissioner of Metropolitan Police, and head of the Criminal Investigation Department, is to retire next month, following hiß chief, Sir William Horwood, Commissioner, who is to retire on November 6. Viscount Byng will succeed Sir William Horwood, so that a complete change will be effected in the administration of the London police organisation. The Home Secretary, Sir William JoynsonHieks, is now. searching for a new Assistant Commissioner.
Major-General Sir Wyndham Childs has been Assistant Commissioner Metropolitan Police since 1921. He was born in December, 1876. He entered the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry, 1000; was captain in the Royal Irish Regiment, 1910; brevet major, 1912; major Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry, 1915; brevet lieutenantcolonel, 1917; col- , onel, 1919; brigadiergeneral, 1918; temporary major-gen-eral, 1917; staff captain at the War Office, 1911-14; assistane adjutant-general, 1916; director of personal sendees, War Office, 1916-19; deputy adjutant-general to the forces, 1919-21. He served in the European War, and retired in 1922. He was created K.C.M.G., 1919, and K.tf.E. 1921.
