THE SUMMER TIME COMPROMISE.
Some who remember the heat with which many opponents of Mr. Sidey's proposal expressed themselves may be surprised that Parliament has agreed to even 50 per cent of last year's change in time. But this acceptance means that supporters of daylight saving were at last able to make an impression on the House more or less proportionate to their strength, and that the whole question was viewed in a more reasonable light. Apparently some members of Parliament are still completely unconvinced, but we hope that experience of the half-hour change this summer will show them that their fears are groundless. It is quite likely not only that on a second trial the country will approve of summer time by an overwhelming majority, but that in time the change will be extended to the full hour. In the meantime Parliament is to be congratulated on having reached this, oompromise so amicably.
