ON A WORLD TOUR.

AUSTRALIAN MANUFACTURER'S VISIT. Mr. Thomas Poole, who arrived on the R.M.s. Niagara to-dav, after a world tour, intends spending a fortnight in New Zealand before proceeding to Australia. Mr. Poole is general manager of James Stedman-Henderson's Sweets, Ltd. manufacturers of Minties, and is one of the most outstanding figures in the confectionery industry in Australasia. His rise to liis present position reads. as a romance in the industrial world. Arriving in Australia from England in 1909. he started right at the bottom of the ladder, and by abUity and determination reached the position he now holds. Incidentally it will be of interest to many in New Zealand to know that James Stedman-Henderson's Sweets, Ltd., have opened a factory in Graham Street, Auckland, manufacturing for the New Zealand market, and employing New ■ Zealand labour and material, only going abroad for those necessities that cannot he obtained in New Zealand. Mr. Poole's interests can now truly be said to be d'vided between Australia and New Zealand.

During his tour abroad lie has made a close study of the manufacturing methods employed in other parts of the world, and this knowledge will be of inestimable value in the future progress of a great industry.
