EXPLORERS AND WHALERS.
CO-OPERATION IN ANTARCTIC. (J. A. LARS EN'S RADIQ EQUIKMEJS'V (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) DUNEDIX, this day: The presence of the Antarctic whaling ship, C. A. Larsen, within 10 degrees in the South Pole during the operations 01 the Byrd Expedition for four months each year, will add substantially to the secur ity of the explorers. The C. A. Larsen has one of the best radio installations afloat, and ■ will be in constant communication with the expedition and the outsideworld while she is working in the Sea. The C. A, Larsen and her equipment have been made available to Commander Byrd by Mr. Magnus Konow, a famous yachtsman, and chief owner of tlic Rosv Sea Whaling Coy. He is a close personal friend of Commander Bvrd. Mr. Konow was aboard the C. A. Larsen when slip was almost wrecked at Stewart Island early this year. The C. A. Larsen is scheduled to arrive at the advanced base of the Byrd Ex pedition on the shores of the .Ross Sea. about December 15, stopping en route at Price's Bay, in Paterson's Inlet, which is the supnly base of the whaling company At Paterson's Inlet the New Zealand members of the whaler's crew will embark. Both the C.. A. Larsen and the other "mother" ship, the 12.450 ton Sir James Clark Ross, will, with their ten "chasers", be operating in the Ross Sea between South latitudes 70 and 80 from late December until the whaling season closes in February of each year.
