TAUPO FISHING.
GOOD SEASON , LIKELY. THE LICENSE RATES. (By Telegrapn.—Own Correspondent.) TAUPO, this day. The season opens on the first of next month;, Fish, which have been caught for examination, show considerable improvement on last season. The Government's bookings . are good, and the tourist bureau which the Government is establishing should be very useful. It will take some working up to reimburse the Government for the unbusinesslike bargain they made with regard to the streams and lake bed. It is : a serious loss now, and under the arrangement, can never be anything else. Though the £3000 a year is a lucky thing for the natives, it is pretty bad for the taxpayer. ' Even then it would not be so bad if the Tuwharetoa tribe got the full benefit of the money, but. a considerably sum has been loaned to members of the Trust Board, and so far, there is no business advisory board to have an eye on the expenditure. Fishermen will be interested in the new fees. Visitors will pay 3/G for a day, 10/ for a week, or £3 for the' season. Women, and young people under IG, will pay 2/0, 7/6 and 30/ for the same privileges. Overseas visitors pay about double the foregoing. There are some restrictions regarding reserves for fly fishing, which are not unreasonable, and are well known to launch proprietors. It is proposed to furnish every fisherman with a full copy of the regulations.
