Loss Of Professional Golf Title. DEFEAT BY DIEGEL. (United Service.) ' NEW YOKE, October 5. In the national professional golf tournament Walter Hagen was defeated by Leo Diegel, 2 up and 1, and his reign as champion ended. It was left to Hagen then to do the same, if he would save his title, and he missed by threo inches.
Hagen started by playing shaky golf and found himself 5 down after nine holes. Ho came back and was 2 down at the end of the morning round. He put on a splendid rally and was 1 down as he went to the 35th tee. The hole is 155 yards" long, a , one-shot hole, with no fairway, nothing but the tee, the green and trouble. Hagen drove within 13ft of . the hole and Diegel matched him, and his putting skill then, decided tile match. .
