A "GREY" MANUSCRIPT.
PEOPLES OF PACIFIC. ORIGIN AND MIGRATION. SIK GEORGE GREY'S STORY. M.S. [vTRITTEN FOR "AUCKLAND STAR." NOT HITHERTO PUBLISHED. In 1893 Sir George Grey; Governor of Kew Zealand and later Premier of the colony, wrote for tlie "Auckland Star" a short account of the origin, migration, manners and customs of the Polynesian races. This document is of great historical value. It is ou entirely different lines to the author's "Polynesian Mythology" and summarises his conclusions, after deep study and much inquiry into the adventures of the two great races which inhabited the Pacific before the coming of- the white man.
The brochure was not published in our columns when it was written, and ifc.will now be made available to our readers for the first time.
Publication ■will begin in our raagaeine section on Saturday next and will then be continued ■weekly. The story will be read with keen interest by all who take even the remotest interest in. the history of their country and its people, and so great is the name and fame of its author that we feel assured that the readers of the "Auckland Star" will deem it a privilege to follow Sir George Grey in his researches into the genealogy of the noble race "which made New Zealand its home after long wanderings across half the face of the world.
The conclusions reached by the great pro-consul are scientifically sound and, save in a few minor instances, are supported by later research, which has but served to show.how great was the knowledge and wisdom brought to bear on the problems of Pacific wanderings. ■
