NEW GLADIOLI.
The -National Gladiolus Society's Show on "August 10 was apparently one of the finest ever seon. Some- of the large growers. made immense, displays. One striking variety shown by- E. , H. Bath, Ltd.-was Victor, an Australian novelty. The flowers arc bright vermilion scarlet, with bold, "white blotches. The ; following new ' varieties received awards:- 1 - " . ' A'ida: Dark purple with (lark red blotclies and no white- on lower petals. Large flowers, tall grower. An earlier variety than Barou Hulot,- and one of the best blues. . "Alt-Wien: Light purple in centre, passing into lavender; throat marked red and white. Good round-shaped flowers, four to five inches across. . ' . Basil Prior: A pure glistening white. Lobe petals occasionally lightly lined.' Tall, dainty spikes carrying eight to ten florets, 'with, several open at a, time. • " Captain Boynton: A fine lavender with dark throat spot. Flowers well placed. Margie Kelly: Dark rose-cerise, white speckled centre. Nnne.v Hanks: Rich apricot to.orange pink with grenadine tongue. Tall spike with six or more llowcrs oflen at once. Pcrle Brilliant: An outstanding variety with long spikes. Ground colour, a real light blue.with throat spot. Stuttgardia: Brilliant orange scarlet without blotches. ,A large flowered variety,-with massive spike and flowers of great substance, five inches across, five or six open at a time. Yvonne: Rosy white, with small delicate wine-red spot in the centre. Long spike, large flowers, several open at once.
