AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
LABOUR DAY SPORTS. The opening event of the new track season, the Labour Day sports programme, is eagerly awaited by all runners and cyclists. As, in past years the meeting on October 22, is being con--trolled by ■ the Akarana Amateur Cycle and.Athletic Club. A varied programme has been arranged and is likely to meet with a ready response from intending competitors. , Interest in athletics will receive added impetus through tho forthcoming visit of an American team, and in S'iew of the fact that the team will make an appearance at Auckland early in the New Year,. local runners will be eager to get into form. A meeting between the visiting long distance runner and J. W; Savidan promises to be one of the events of the coming season. Cycle road racing will conclude today and cyclists will now turn their attention to the grass track. There sejms every indication' of the season being a busy one for all concerned. The Labour Day programme" is advertised elsewhere in this issue. /
