TAKAPUNA ORPHANS' CLUB.
The Takapuna Orphans' Club held their fifth annual meeting last evening, Mr. D. R. C. Mowbray, president, being chairman. The report and balance-sheet" showed the club to be in a sound position, and the prospects for the session were considered exceedingly bright. Officers for the 1929 session were elected as follow: —Patron, Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M.; president, Mr. W. Blomfield; vicepresidents, Hon. E. W. Alison, M.L.C., Dr. W. W. Baxter, Messrs. L. E. Bull, A. W. Clark, W. F. Collis, E. P. Fenwick, B. Gibbons, A. Harris, M J., J. M. Hall, F. Hawes, T. L. Stewart, L. L. Speedy, J. W. Williamson and E. A. Wilson; committee, Messrs. E. A. Blomiield, H. L. Bowden, E. T. Hill, F. J. Kneebone, "W. M. Mellor and E. Woodward; hon. secretary, Mr. C. E. Archibald; hon. treasurer, Mr. L. J. Minogue; hon. auditor, Mr. S. C. Gilfillan; chief steward, Mr. H. S. Lorimer; hon. pianists, Messrs. E. Griffin, H. Phillips, Nathan and W. Swain. , Hearty expressions of . appreciation for their past services were tendered to Mr. E. Arthur Wilson, retiring secretary, and Mr. E. P. Fenwick, retiring chief steward, who were not seeking re-election. Visitors present were Vice Rangatiras Fletcher and Taine, and' a strong- contingent from the Auckland Savage Club, and Mr. Geo. Hogan, president, and members of the Tamaki Orphans' Club. Fine musical items were provided by the club orchestra under Mr. H. Christensen, conductor, and items were also given by Messrs. Graham-Holder, L. Rainger,, Mellor, "Bio," Minogue, Coleman and Fenwick.
