NOT BEFORE SUNDAY.
TRANS-TASMAN FLIGHT.
CONDITIONS IMPROVING.
SUDDEN GALE IN BLENHEIM.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
BLENHEIM, this day.
The Government meteorologst'a evening weather report indicated that reasonably good prospects for the flight across the Tasman by a northerly route, which in cans describing a great arc between Cook Strait and Sydney, may be expected on Sunday. It may be taken for granted that the Southern Cross will not leave before then.
A heavy gale yesterday morning caused fears for the temporary hangar in which the Southern Cross is housed, and a gang of men was kept ready to remove the machine in case of necessity. However, the building stood a very severe test! The wind for a time developed almost hurricane force and tore loose the lashings of one of the tarpaulins on the roof. The wind died out as suddenly as it arose.
