WHANGAREI CLUB'S OPENING. TWO NEW CROQUET LAWNS. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, Wednesday. Perfect weather and a very large gathering of members' wives and visitors greeted the opening of the bowling season on the Kensington Club's green to-day. The opening of the croquet season and the bringing into play of two new lawns by the Mayor, Mr. L. J. Brake, also synchronised with the bowling function. It was a red letter! day for Kensington, and the double event was the occasion for much congratulation. Mrs. Staple, amid applause, sent down the first jack. In opening the croquet lawns, the Mayor congratulated the club on the formation of two very fine new lawns, which were laid down last autumn. Be paid a tribute to the pioneering work of members, and stated that the result of their labours was demonstrated in the fact that they had made one of the foremost beauty spots in Whangarei, which would prove an added attraction to those already existing. Croquet, said the Mayor, gave women ah excellent opportunity of developing social intercourse among their fellows. Mrs. Julias Maurer, president of the club, played the first ball.
