ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL
CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL
PONSONBY V. TRAMWAYS.
QUEEN CARNIVAL POLL.
On the result of the Tramways v. Ponsonby senior match on Blandford Park to-morrow will rest the winning of the championship for season 1928. Both teams are in the running, but a win to either side would decide the issue and the game is therefore destined to be a thriller throughout. Tramways, who last Saturday drew with Onehunga, expect to have out their strongest 6ide, including Spencer and Davis who were absent last week, and Ponsonby will field their most capable side. The City eleven are noted for their determination and ability to rise to an occasion, and with the ground in excellent condition for a fast and open contest, the final of the, 1928 championship should certainly provide a fitting attraction.
As an introduction to the senior final Manurewa will play Glen Eden for the championship of the second grade. Prospects of a reconstructed and reorganised association next year, with an extended senior grade, are at the moment
exceedingly bright and many of the junior teams are "knocking at the door" of the higher section. Manurewa and Glen Eden will certainly have to be considered when the question of promotious arises and to-morrow's showing should give the public a fair idea of the qualification of .the leading second graders. Both teams - have - already appeared on Blandford Park, and their meeting in the championship final is certain to produce a ding-dong encounter. As North Shore have scratched their senior team for to-morrow's fixture, the only other senior game, will be between Y.M.C.A. and Belmont on the Domain.
Queen Carnival Contest.
The revenue-raising effort which the association is putting forward in the shape of the Queen Carnival contest, ia being prosecuted with much energy by the various organisations. To-morrow afternoon several of the candidates will be in attendance at Blandford Park with their retinue and some of the ladies will kick-off in the matches down for decision. The organisers have now reached the position of being able to issue reports of the progress of the voting and the first announcement is published below. The figures so far are surprisingly close between the leading ladies, but it is almost certain that after the weekend activities the positions will. be altered. The poll to date stands as follows:— Ponsonby—Miss Marjorie Armstrong .. I Onehunga—Miss Nellie Bent ley 2' Business Houses—Miss Marjorie Simpson 3 Belmont—Miss Lena Follas 4 Tramways—Miss Hilda TaWe 5 Y.M.C.A.—Miss Mavis Boss 8
