CAMBRIDGE COMPETITIONS. JUDGES' HIGH PRAISE. (By Telegraph —Own Correspondent.) CAMBRIDGE, this day. The Cambridge musical competitions, which end to-night, have been the most successful the society has ever held. Last night the hall was packed, and for the prize-winners' concert to-night every seat has been booked. Additional results of the competitions follow:— Piano Solo ("The Butterfly"), under 16. Barry Harbutt, 80, 1; Queenie Silk (Auckland), 78, 2; Joyce Menzies, 3. Nineteen entrants. Recitation ("Morning Thanksgiving").— ladies or gentlemen, restricted: Zeha Andrews (Hamilton) and Jean Hulme,' equal, 73, 1. Operatic or Dramatic Solo, men.—Arthur Watts (Manurewa), "0 Tu Palerme," 78, 1; W. Maberly, 77, 2. Piano Solo ("Rondo Capriccioso").— Marie Darby (Manurewa), 80, 1; Flossie Brook (Thames), 77, 2; Edna Tye (Devonport), 3. Test Recital ("Pacific Coast"), men.— Noel Vear, 75 and 75. 1; M. Sacred Solo, ladies, any voice.—Doris Moore (Devonport), "He Was Despised," 79, 1; Mary Attwood, 76, 2; Adele Bell, Shakespearean Recital ("Troilus and Cressida," Act 3), men—E. B. Both judges complimented the performers during the competitions on the standard of their work. Mr. Will Hutchens. judge of the vocal and instrumental section, remarked that he heard voices at Cambridge that compared favourably with the best amateure in New Zealand or in the Southern Hemisphere. He paid a tribute to the local talent and said he was not surprised so much by it after walking about the borough, for the beautiful natural environment contributed its part Both judges also srpoke in high praise of the management of the competitions.
