WAR MEMORIAL MUSEUM
"BO CAUSE FOR COMPLAINT."
COMMENT BT MR. K S. VAUX.
FUND NOT EXHAUSTED.
1 am not even an officer of the Citizens' Committee," said Mr. H. E. Vaile, president of the Auckland Institute and Museum, this morning, in referring to the fear expressed by the Returned Soldiers' Association that the Auckland War Memorial Museum would be devoid of any indication of its primary purpose.
"I consider that there is no cause of complaint," added Mr. Vaile, "because nobody has said that the Court of Honour and the Cenotaph are not to be built. So far as I know these are to be provided." "Is the fund exhausted?" Mr. Vaile was asked.
"No," he replied quite definitely. "There is one point they have not men* tioned which I consider most important," he added. "That is that the building should be flood-lighted. Being a memorial building, it should, to my mind, be in full view both day and night, as is the case with' other war memorials throughout the world." "No one is more anxious to make this building • true memorial than the promoters of the scheme," added Mr. Vaile, "but, before saying any more, I think it wise that the Citizens' War Memorial Committee should have the opportunity of considering the matter."
