TRAFFIC REGULATIONS.

OFFENDERS IN COURT.

(Before Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M.)

Mr. G. R. Hogan, chief city traffic inspector, appeared yesterday in the following cases of breaches of the traffic regulations, for which penalties with costs were imposed: — Unattended Cars: H. A. Sneyd, P. W. ; Peatc, each fined 10/, and A. H. Astwood, £1. Load obscuring the vision of the driver, K. Bryant, 10/. Turning to the right, D. A. Coleman and G. R. Wilson, £1. Overloading vehicle, S. F. Ford, 10/. Leaving car on bus stand, F. H. Mills, £1. Failing to'obey traffic officer, J. E. May, £1. Failing to secure'brakes, G. McGhee, 10/. Dangerous Driving. Quite a number of charges of dangerous driving were dealt with. Fines of £2 and costs were imposed on L. D. Page, F. Pye, G. H. Pearce, A. E. Macreadie and W. A. Hawkins. For similar breaches J. Kerr and H. F. Barnett were eacl: fined £1 10/, H. Plumley, F. J. NaUcu and F. H. Paton £2 10/, R. Cole- ( brook, S. .T. Blackmore and E. W. Griffiths, £4 and costs. Three charges of dangerous driving were ir;iclo against S. V. Dalton. The speeds v -re stated to have been 36, 39 and 41 v : les per hour. Fines were imposed of £4, £3 and £4 with costs, and in one case the license was endorsed. Error of Judgment. In the case of W. Muir, charged with dangerous driving, his counsel, Mr. J. F. W. Dickson, pleaded not guilty, claiming that it was purely an error of judgment on the part of his client, who was only going twenty miles an hour up a hill. As under the section the offence was taken Mr. Muir was liable to imprisonment, Mr. Dickson said it looked like using a sledge hammer to crack a peanut, when the case was merely an error of judgment. "People with mßtor cars are _ being B*hot at from all sides," said Mr. Dickson. "It i« a good source of revenue to the Government and local bodies." Mr. Hogan: Wc never look at it that way, your Worship. Mr. McKean held the case was more Athan an error of judgment and imposed fine of £1 and costs.
