RACING NEWS.

STABLE AND TRACK NOTES. (By WHALEBONE.) Commendation was given a run on the course proper at Ellerslie this morning, and by the manner in which he acquitted himself over half a mile there seems to be every prospect of him returning to his best form. He is nice and big in condition, and a race or two should greatly improve him. Staghunter was a good two-year-old during the spring and summer of last season, but towards the latter end he wekt off. However, he looks likely to again produce his best form before long, judging by the manner in which he is galloping at Ellerslie. This morning he beat Valkon over seven furlongs. One of the best gallops seen at EUers- | lie for some years was registered by i Aussie this morning. Hidden by J. Day I and accompanied by Awarere (Goldsboro), he gave his companion several lengths' start from the new five-furlong rt. Running the first furlong in 13s was then close behind Awarere, and galloping in brilliant style beat him easily at the finish, the time recorded being 1.1 2-5.

He is engaged in both the principal handicaps, but the winning of either will not entail (my penalty for the New Zealand Cup.
