McCOXACHY'S BREAK OF 88T.
A feature of yesterday's play in. the billiards match of 18,000 up between Walter Lindrum (Australia) and Clark McConachy (New Zealand), which is being played in the St. James' Theatre building was a break of 887 by the New Zealander, a record for the match. In fact, tall scoring marked both tttsions of yesterday's play. In the afternoon McConachy, in addition to his 887 effort, scored a break of 121 unfinished, and averaged 152 per cue, while Lindrum did even better, his best breaks being 488 and 379, and his average 154. In the Lindrum was again in rather the better' form and averaged 153 for the session. He scored 316 at one visit an&,then ran to session points with 325 unfinished. McConachy** best effort of the evening realised 504, his average being MO. With only three more days to play, interest in the match is naturally greater than at the beginning, and the attendance at both of yesterday's sessions was large. It is expected' that the closing sessions up till Saturday" evening will draw packed houses. In making his big- break of 887 in the afternoon, McConachy played fine all round billiards, finally breaking down over a comparatively easy shot. Lindrum was the first to congratulate him on his splendid effort. Lihdrum delighted the spectators by the masterly manner in which he rattled on 488 in quick time, but he also broke down on a simple shot —an easy nursery cannon. At his next visit to the table he scored 379. McConachy added 150 at two cues and then ran to session points with an unfinished break of 121. Scores:— W. Lindrum, 12,736. Breaks .of 488 and 379. Average, 154.5. C. McConachy, 11,901 (in play). Breaks of 887, 88, 121, unfinished. Average 152.9. There was a record attendance of the public for .the evening session. Continuing his unfinished effort, McConachy got as far as 504. before failing, his top-of-the-table play being a feature. Lindrum, employing the nursery cannon, rattled on 200 odd and then played a number of losing hazards without failing. A spell. of top-of-the-table play took his break to 316 before he failed. Thence-to the end of the session the Australian had much the better of the scoring, finally running to session points with a break of 325 unfinished. Scores:— • -.•*. W. Lindrum, 13,501 (in play).
