DALGETY'S CHIEF.
SIB H. BBADDON RETIBES. (Received 11 a.m.) ' SYDNEY, this day. Sir Henry Braddon, an outstanding figure in the Australian financial and commercial world, is retiring from the
superintendentship of Dalgety and Co., Ltd., being succeeded by Mr. W. D. Stewart, superintendent for the New Zealand branch.
The Hon. Sir Henry Yule Braddon was Lorn near Calcutta in May, 1867, and was educated in Germany, France, Dulwich College, England, and at the Church of England school at Launceston, Tasmania.' He then came to New Zealand, and joined the staff of the Bank of Australasia at Invercargill. In 1884 he went to Sydney, where he joined the staff of Dalgety and Co., Ltd. He has worked for Dalgety's ever since, and in 1914 he was superintendent for the company in Australia. In 1917 he entered politics, and has been a_ member of the Legislative Council of New South Wales ever since. From 1912-14 he was president of the Sydney Chamber of Commerce, and occupied the same position in the Associated Chambers of Commerce of Australia from 1913-14. and again in 1920. He helped to establish the courses and degree in Economics and Commerce at the Sydney University, where he was the first lecturer in Business Principle and Practice. He was the first Commissioner of the Commonwealth of Australia to the United States of America during the years 1918 and 1919. During the war he was actively engaged in patriotic work. In 1920 he published a book entitled "American Impressions," the data for which he obtained while on official duties in that country. Apart from being a well-known man in public affairs. Sir Henry was a great footballer, and represented Otago from 1880 to 18S4. It was at the position of full-back that he shone, and he was the idol of the Otago supporters. In 1884 he went with the first New Zealand team to visit Australia. The new superintendent, Mr. W. D. Stewart, lias been in the company's service for a lengthy period. He has occupied the position of New Zealand superintendent during the past 12 years, prior to which he was manager of the Christchurch branch.
