SELECTION OF CANDIDATES.
Your references to the utilisation of the services of returned Rhodes scholars raises the question of the selection of Parliamentary candidates. The Reform party has a bad record in this matter. Mr. Downie Stewart made an eloquent appeal some time back for the services of the best men in the community, but thfr fiasco of the Raglan selection showed the liking of the party for mediocrity. More recently Mr. S. X. Ziman offered himself as a candidate. A Rhodes scholar with experience in the Tthlmii Civil Service, and proved ability in more one walk of life, should have the makings of a good Parliamentarian, but the Reform party will not allow him the opportunity even of standing as a candidate. I hope you will keep the question before the eyes of the public and the political leaders. LET THE BEST MAX STAXD.
