MANUREWA TOWN BOARD.

The newly-elected Manurewa Town Board met last evening, the member! present being Messrs. G. Gallaher, W. Ferguson, C. A. Fawcett, W. Frost, W. T. Cox, G. A. Osborne, and F. Whyte. Chairman.—On the motion of Mr. C, A. Fawcett, seconded by Mr. W. Frost, Mr. G. Gallaher was unanimously, appointed chairman. Mr. Fawcett wai similarly appointed deputy chairman. Committees were set up as follows: Works Committees: Northern district, including Station and Lupton Roads, Messrs. Fawcett, Cox, and Frost; southern district, including Hill Road, Messrs, Whyte, Osborne, and Ferguson. Hall and Library, Messrs, Whyte, Ferguson, and Cox; cemetery and reserves, Messrs. Frost, Fawcett, Osborne, and the chairman; representatives on the Local Bodies* Association, the chairman and Mr. Frost. Appreciation.—On the chairman's motion it was decided to write to members of ths late board expressing appreciation of their services on the district's behalf. Town Planning.—A lengthy letter was received in connection with the proposed co-operation of local bodies in the matter of regional town planning. Members considered that, in view of the present rate of suburban development, the subject was of considerable importance to this district, and representation was desirable accordingly. Mr. C. A. Fawcett was appointed to act in this direction. Footpaths.—The clerk (Mr. H. Kay) reported that he had communicated with the oil companies concerned in reference to damage done to the Great South Road footpath through the installation of petrol pumps. The Vacuum Oil Company had replied agreeing to meet the cost of repairs, and asking the board to do the work. This arrangement was considered satisfactory. Massey Road.—After some discussion regarding the requirements of this road, the Northern Works Committee wen asked to make an inspection. Cricket Club.—A deputation from the cricket club waited on the board, Mr. D. Peebles asking that assistance be given in providing a pitch on the JeQicoe Reserve. The club was willing to pay 10/ per match, and it was hoped that the board would lay dow-i an asphalt wicket. It was decided to prepare a grass pitch, payment to be made as offered, and the club to be responsible for keeping portion of the area in good order. Water.—Mr. E. S. Pegler wrote suggesting that an application be made to the Auckland City Council for a quotation for the supply of water to the town boundary the Mayor having intimated that such a supply would be available.
