ACCLIMATISATION.
The monthly meeting of the Waimarino Acclimatisation Society was held on Friday. Mr. T. Shout occupied the chair and Messrs. Gundy, Angus. Wise, Henderson and Dawson were present. It was decided to ask anglers in different parts of the district to send in weekly reports on fishing. with particular reference to bait used and number of fish taken. The chief inspector of fisheries wrote asking for samples of "Elvus" (the youngest stage of fresh-water eel) for Dr. Schmidt, the eminent Danish scientist, who is visiting New Zealand in December in his investigations of the fresh water eels of the world. The following country representatives were elected: —Measrs. Hunter, Jack Beechy, McKee, Cox'and Turton. Mr. W. Bromley was elected an honorary ranger and his appointment was forwarded on to the Department of Internal Affairs for confirmation. An enjoyable evening was spent at Ashwell's Hall at the celebration of the Waimarino Acclimatisation Society's silver jubilee. The president (Mr. A. Ashwell) occupied the chair. Mr. Ashwell said that the success of the society was due to the splendid work done by the foundation members of the society, mentioning particularly Mr. A. Henderson and the late Mr. P. G. Smith. Several toasts were honoured and Messrs. Ritchie, McNie, Angus and Baird gave musical items. Mr. Henderson, responding to the toast of foundation members, traced the growth of the society from its inception to its present sound position.
