The weather was ideal and the course good for the Hawke's Bay .Toekey Club s spring meeting yesterday. There was a. large attendance. In the decision of the Epsom Handicap Amounia once again proved himself a great horse over a mile. He was at the rear of the field for some time, but finished with marked brilliancy. Amounis won the Epsom Handicap on a previon9 occasion for his present owner, Mr. W. Pearson. The contest for the Spring Stakes was the feature of the day's racing. Limerick looked an outright winner at the head of the straight, but the New Zealand champion was unable to shake off' a vigorous challenge from Winalot, and the pair fighting out an exciting finish, they dashed past the judge level, and a dead heat was declared. The New Zealand colt Concentrate led early from Rionscup and Gardo. Along the back Rionscup ran to the front, and thereafter was in command, with Sallie Blue and Octember fighting desperately for second place. Rionscup eventually won by two lengths. Time, 2.6 J. Mollison took the lead at the distance, followed by Prince Humphrey, Ramulus, with Oatendale finishing fast. They continued in this order to the distance. where Sion took charge and appeared an easy winner, when, Amouuis came fast on thq outside and snatched a victory by a.quarter of a length. Time, 1.371. Turning into tlje straight Limerick showed the way to Winalo.t, which joined the New Zealand champion at the distance, and the pair meed stride for stride to the post, and the judge, being unable to separate them, declared a dead heat.
