LADIES' GOLF.
NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIP
.THIRD ROUND RESULTS. I EIGHT PLAYERS LEFT IN. The ladies' championship golf meeting at Middlemore was again favoured with fine weather to-day. Further championship matches were played, and again there were no surprises. The list of entrants has now been reduced to eight, and some good golf is expected tomorrow, when the fourth round of the New Zealand ladies' championship will be played.
The result of play in the third round of the championship is as folows: — Mrs. Bannister (Titirangi) beat Miss G. Upha.ni (Wellington), 1 up at the twentieth. Miss B. Gaisford (Marton) beat Mrs. Richter (Taumarunui), 6 and 5. Miss M.-Payton (Rotorua) beat Miss Acheson (Nelson), 2 and 1. Miss D. Chrystall (Christchurch) beat Mrs. D. Stout (Wellington), 5 and 4. Miss V. Upham (Wellington) beat Miss F. Rathbone (Auckland), 8 and 6. Miss O. Kay (St. Clair) beat Mrs. Hughes (Auckland), 4 and 3. Mrs. G. Williams (Masterton) beat Mrs. R. Grace (Wangantd), 6 and 5. Miss E. Culling (Auckland) beat Mrs. T. S. Weston (Wellington), 4 and 2. Details of Play. Mies Gaisford, who is one of the players most fancied for the championship, had a somewhat easy victory over Mrs. Richter. Miss Gaisford won the first hole, and Miss Richter the second. The next was halved in fives, and the next four by Miss Gaisford. The Bth and 9th were halved in fours. Miss Gaisford turned for home four up. Her scorp going out was 42, two over bogey. The 10th was halved in fours. Miss Gaisford won the next, and the 12th was halved in fives. Miss Gaisford wqn the next and the game, 6 up and 5 to play. Miss D. Chrystall was always ahead in her game with Mrs. D. Stout, and won comfortably. She went out in 41 and was 2up at the turn. Coming home she monopolised the scoring, winning the 10th, 11th, and 13th. The 12th and 14th were halved in fives. She won 5 np and 4 to play. A great fight resulted from the meeting of Miss G. Upham and Mrs. Banister, the game being carried to the 20th hole. Miss Upham won the first four holes, and Mrs. Banister the sth. The next was halved in fives, and Miss Upham, winning the 7th, was 4 up. The next two holes were won by Mrs. Banister, leaving her opponent 2 up at the turn. Of the remaining nine holes seven were halved, and Mrs. Banister winning the other two the game was all square at the 18th. The I9th was halved, and Mrs. Banister doing the 20th in four, one under bogey for the hole, won the game. Even plav characterised the play in the match between Miss Acheson and Miss M. Payton. Of the first six holes four were halved, and the players won one each. Miss Payton won the 7th, and the next two were halved, Miss Payton being one up at the 9th. Miss Payton took 41. and Miss Acheson 42 going out. Coming home Miss Payton won the 10th and 11th, and Miss Acheson the next two. Misa Payton won the 14th and Miss Acheson the 15th. The 16th was halved, and Miss Payton gaining the 17th was 2 up and 1 to play. Mrs. Guy Williams was always well ahead in her game with Mrs. R. Grace. She was five up at the turn, and finally won 6 and 5. Miss V. Upham had an easy win over Miss F. Rathbone, the game" ending in favour of the former by 8 and 6. Although Mrs. Weston was 1 up at the turn. Miss Culling monopolised the scoring coming home, and won the game 4 and 2. Miss O. Kay also had a fairly easy win over Mrs. Hughes, returning a card of 4 and 3.
