BLENHEIM, this day,
The conclusion reached from a reading of the weather reports received by the airmen at mid-day is that there is little likelihood of the Southern Cross leaving for Australia before Thursday.
Flight-Lieut. Ulm, accompanied by Captain M. Buckley, flew over Blenheim at midday in a Bristol plane, and on his return to the aerodrome carried out a 6pin, a loop, and other acrobatics. Dr. Kidson staled in Wellington this morning that had & start been made on Saturday morning the airmen might have experienced fairly favourable conditions, considering the time of the year. Had they started on Sunday morning it would have been "touch-and-go." Bad weather probably would have been encountered before they reached Australia.
Dr. Kidson added that an anti-cyclone, which was in evidence at the end of last week, and which had now ceased to hold sway, was almost more than could be reasonably expected at this time of the year, and it was likely that it would be some time before such conditions prevailed again. For the next few days, at any rate, the outlook was not at all favourable.
