PEDESTRIANS, TOO?
TRAFFIC CONTROL NEEDED.
MOTORISTS AGITATES.
HOW TO TELL A NEW ZEALANDER
(By Telegrapji—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day
"The present position is intolerable, as che whole of the onus is thrown on the motorist," said Dr. Gibbs (Nelson) tu last night's meeting of the goutli Island Jlotor Union, in moving the remit, "tha,. naving now provided for the regulation of motor traffic, the Government be urged to issue regulations for the control jf pedestrians and all other traffic."
Mr. W. Wright (Otago): A friend o! mine.who returned from Melbourne recently tells me they can tell a New Zea tander there by the reckless way he walks on the road. Pedestrians.flout us, and I venture to say that if the motorists relaxed their precautions for one day the hospitals would not be able to hold the accident cases.-
Mr. F. \V. Johnston (C'liristchurch) : There should be universal regulation of all traffic. I have been a pedestrian a lot lately, and I find that there are a tremendous number of louts in ears who would drive right over you. I have often cursed them loud and long. I am not one of those people who try to jump or fly out of the way. I have enough strength of mind to hold up my hanr 1 ind say. '"stop, you d— lout."
Mr. Johnston adde<« that he though* 'he Union should not go 011 with the •natter now, as many people would mis : nterpret the remit and think the Unior was trying to run pedestrians off the road. The remit was referred back to tinExecutive.
