CItRISTCHURCH, this day,
A fire yesterday morning in the rear premises of Messrs. Beath and Company, drapery firm, in Casliel Street, caused considerable damage to the reserve stock. The main building facing on to Cashel Street was not touched by the fire, which occurred in the big brick building facing Lichfield §treet, and adjoining' tWfnain building. Only the furnishing workroom and the reserve stockroom were damaged by the flames. One estimate of the amount of the damage is' £15.000. The destroyed stock is fully covered tinder an adjustable insurance policy with Lloyd's. The cause of the fire is unknown. The main electric switches were off. and there were no fires in the premises on the previous day.
