UNEMPLOYMENT.
DEPUTATION TO MAYOR. : ARRANGEMENTS POSTPONED. THE WEEKLY FIGURES. In view of the fact that the Mayor (Mr. George Baildon) will be absent in Wellington on Monday, arrangements made for him to receive a deputation from the unemployed at 3 o'clock have been postponed. The Mayor will be engaged on business concerning the tramways undertaking, and will be accompanied on his mission by the Deputy-Mayor (Mr. A. J. Entrican), Mr. J. A. C. Allum, Mr. E. J. Phelan, and the manager of the tramways department, Mr. A. E. Ford. Unemployment during the past week has shown a further increase in Auckland, according to official figures supplied this morning by the Labour Department bureau. There are 856 men seeking engagement through this medium at the moment, as compared with 847 last week. Of the former figure, 718 of the applicants are capable of doing heavy work, and the remainder are suitable for light labour. During the past week the Department has succeeded in finding positions for 31 men.
