GAMES FOR THE SHORE.
With the approaching summer time these new games will interest many Budget readers who will be visiting the country or seaside. One game was a "Jockey Race," in which the boys had paper rosettes of different colours pinned on their shirts, whilst the girls had paper caps, and reins with which to drive. Four pairs started at the sound of a whistle, some low fences and trenches had to be jumped, and the course was a big circle marked out on the sand. As both horses and drivers had to clear the obstacles, both got the same amount of work and fun.
Another game was played with a box of letters, one player sitting in the middle of a large half-circle, •no players being behind the central figure. This player kept the letters, and as soon as he called "Play I"- he sent one spinning through the air towards someone in the circle, choosing anyone he pleased. Immediately this player saw what tetter had been dealt him, he had to call out a word beginning with that letter; an instant's pause made him liable to a forfeit.
